To the editor:
I went to college nursing school. It took two years for my diploma as a Registered Nurse.
I worked hard for that diploma! I worked weekends at a small local grocery store to help buy gas for my car and any other small amount of spending that I needed.
My parents didn't have the extra money to pay for my college. As a matter of fact, my brother and sister were in college the same time. We applied for the loans we needed to complete the education of our choosing. When we graduated, we paid back every penny that we committed to.
I value my education that I worked hard for. I never expected the American taxpayer to pay my debt. Should I really pay for someone else's? Where's the dignity?
The Bible clearly teaches that we are to keep our word and pay back what we owe the lender. Proverbs 19:17 says, "the rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave to the lender." Think about it.
May we never forget money is rarely, if ever, free. It's like taking money from a credit card. It must be paid back. Our government gets it money from you and I, the American taxpayer. Experts predict that these loan bailouts could cost the American taxpayer nearly a trillion dollars. WE pay back what THEY spend. Let's top the foolishness.
I am so grateful for a Constitutional Republic that gives us the ability to live free. The ability to earn a living, to live with dignity, self-respect, and honor by hard work and keeping commitments.
