We should eliminate sheriff’s sales

1 min read

To the editor:

How can sheriffs' sales of real estate for delinquent tax bills be eliminated? It's simple: allow school districts and local and county government to tax income in order to replace the lost tax revenue from their present taxes, including property taxes.

Ideally, this income tax would be based on a taxpayer's ability to pay; in other words, a graduated income tax, not a flat-rate income tax that burdens the working class and rewards the wealthy.

Yes, this would require an amendment to the state Constitution approved twice by the legislature and once by the voters.
