Mr. Geedey, to your letter in the July 26 edition of the Sentinel:
The main topic of the letter you referred to was the hypocrisy laden policy of the progressive left. Gun deaths bad -- vacuum abortion deaths good. The collective absurdity of progressive logic is not being able to correlate between common sense and statistics.
We don't live in other countries where nudity is common on TV or like in Ireland where the "F" word is used by children as a natural adjective or adverb. Or countries where women cannot go to school and must be covered from head to toe. We don't drive on the left or eat with sticks. We are a country that was formed by violence and violence has remained (mostly unwanted) as part of our culture.
I agree something must be done to curb mass shootings. Mental health is the main issue behind mass shootings. No one in their right mind shoots people by the score, especially children. Greasing the slippery slope of gun bans of particular weapons is like setting a number on the week when an abortion can be given. Some will agree, most will not.
Abortion was not banned by the Supreme Court -- it merely gave the powers to individual states to decide how abortion is conducted.
There are many reasons to choose what state to live in, like taxes, weather or availability to nature. Maybe abortion laws should be added to that list. California is a state that has it all, but I have heard people are fleeing in droves to avoid progressive state policy. Birds of a feather flock together? Might be some real estate bargains now that so many are leaving?
Here is another statement you can pull some numbers on: Mass shootings are like global warming. Each problem did not magically appear one day. They both developed over a long time and it will take a long time to fix them.
We are seven billion on this rock and growing. Our problems will continue to develop and grow.
