To the editor:

This is a reply to Mr. Fisher’s letter in the Sentinel on June 8.

There is a reason why you need to be tested for a driver’s license. It is to make sure you know the rules of the road.

Other aspects of our lives should be tested as well, so we “all” know what the rules are. Like the rules of government for instance (P.O.D. and Civics are no longer taught in schools). The only problem is some people can’t see the forest for the trees. It is obvious some people have no clue how and why our government was formed. People who think people with common sense want to uphold the Second Amendment only so they can hunt, shoot for sport, or protect themselves. Those are all valid but secondary reasons.

The Second Amendment was written to protect us from the tyranny of government! To prevent a single ruler! The founders were thinking of King George III and their struggle to separate from his rule! It was about a well-regulated militia to that end! That is us, you and me, for a call to arms, if government ever tries to take our God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, again! At that point the government is the enemy! Will you be ready without a weapon? This is the 800-pound gorilla in our room. Our government knows we are armed and keeps them from turning America into a dictatorship. This is the underlying reason for gun control. Lord knows the liberal left is trying their best to get this done.

We have a serious gun problem in America extolled by liberal media for profit at the expense of wide spread gun deaths. They also hide behind the First Amendment without the burden of explaining their actions or for-profit motives. As I stated before, our gun problem stems from social and mental health issues.

In the ’60s, it was nothing to see a shotgun in a pickup at school. We did not have the plethora of mass shootings, why? The only thing that we have now that we didn’t have then are progressive liberals opening our borders, defunding the police or idiots trying to change biology. Social media has changed us dramatically! The fall of organized religion is also a contributing factor.

Turn off CNN, close your Facebook account and study some history. Think about your lame, useless arguments. We are going nowhere with gun deaths and mass shooting because the people in power want lemmings to follow them to the poll and to forget the real reason for gun ownership. Think for yourself! Try and find some common sense. Without it, you and your ilk are right where your government wants you!

You’re crossing the street looking “right” (and complaining) and the traffic is coming from (your own) “left”! Keep your mouth running and your eyes closed! You’re about to be run over by your own progressive liberal leaders!
