Why are so many who are 'pro life' so 'pro-gun'?
To the editor:
This is in response to Mrs. Diane Logan's letter that was published on June 1, 2022.
While her letter claims to be facts and I quote "excerpts of fact attributable to our founding fathers," but then in the very next paragraph states and again I quote "read some of the messages sent from a number of founders to others."
So what is it Mrs Logan, facts or messages? A little hint here, Mrs. Logan, messages are not facts even though you and the gun loving crowd want them to be.
But here are some real facts. The Second Amendment, which I am glad to actually see someone from the Right quote in full for a change, was ratified in 1791 meaning this archaic crutch actually became a right 231 years ago. In that time the gun has changed dramatically but the Second Amendment has not.
Here is a question for the gun loving crowd: if the Founding Fathers came forward in time and actually saw first hand what that crutch has allowed to happen, do you think that they would have kept it or do you that they would have gotten rid of it? Personally as a part of the "anti-gun crowd" as Mrs. Logan calls us, I would say that they would get rid of it, especially if they had seen what a gun welding maniac did to those kids in a Uvalde classroom.
Another fact for Mrs. Logan and the gun loving crowd: according to the Gun Violence Archive there have been another 18 mass/school shootings since Uvalde bring the total number of mass shootings to 231 just this year and we still have seven months to go.
Mrs. Logan states that no one has the right to deny a people that right. OK, Mrs. Logan, what about the right of the victims of Sandy Hook to live? What the victims of Parkland? What about the victims of the concert shooting in Las Vegas? And what about the right of those kids in Uvalde to live? What about their rights not to have been shot?
In previous letters that were published in The Sentinel from you, you claimed to be pro-life. Really, Mrs. Logan? Does that "belief" only come into play when it is a woman's womb?
If you were really pro-life, then you would want gun safety measures to prevent more kids from being killed while in school, you would want more gun safety measures to prevent people being killed while at a concert or in a movie theater, you would want gun safety measures to prevent people being killed while out shopping and you would want gun safety measures to prevent people being killed while worshipping in a church.
No, Mrs. Logan, all I see from people like you is moaning and groaning because more restrictions could be put in place to prevent deaths, yet who are quite happy dictating to others about them losing the right to get a medical procedure.
Take a look in a mirror, Mrs. Logan. That is what a hypocrite looks like.
