Again, this summer, the Juniata County Food Pantry is offering its Summer Backpack Program. Children who have completed any grade in the Juniata County School District this year from kindergarten through eighth are eligible to participate. Each student will receive food for 20 lunches for each of the three summer months. As all students received free school lunches this year through the federal lunch program, there are no financial limitations for participation. All students who have completed any grade from kindergarten through eighth are eligible.
Parents/legal guardians should call the pantry at (717) 436-9718 to schedule an appointment. Please leave a message, and your call will be returned during regular pantry hours. Pantry hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.
Anyone who is interested in donating food items for the program may deliver them to the Juniata County Food Pantry at 114 N. Main St. in Mifflintown during our open hours as listed above.
Suggested items for donation include: 15 oz. cans of pasta meals; single serve rice and/or mac 'n cheese cups; microwave meals; ready-to-heat soups; fruit cups; pudding and Jell-O cups; cookies and Rice Krispies treats in single servings; cereal and granola bars; and single serve cereal.

We will also be providing school supplies and backpacks for the students. Distribution of these will occur in August during regularly scheduled food appointments.
