Priorities of the right are detached from reality
To the editor:
Oh the end of the world is upon us! Gas prices are high! The pain and suffering that we must endure. I don't know how I will possibly survive the agony of slightly altering my life to either use less fuel or sacrifice something I can live without in order to adjust my budget, all the while grandmothers in Ukraine are making Molotov cocktails to defend their land from Donny Boy's buddy and idol, Vladimir Putin! A murderous thug is killing thousands and the right wing can't stop complaining about having to pay a bit more for gas... give me a break!
I can not get my head around the stupidity of the right when it comes to their lack of understanding about the international energy market. The GQP seems to think that there is some magical tap that the President of the United States can turn on and oil will flow!
It boggles my mind at how the billion-dollar propaganda machine pushes the incongruent thought that producing energy from that giant ball of fire in the sky can not more easily reduce our dependence on foreign fossil fuels than expecting industries profiting more than ever before from their moderating supply in order to maximize profits from a commodity that was great at the dawn of the industrial age but, reality check, we're a bit smarter in the 21st century and science, that thing the right does not believe in, has given us better modern options!
I appreciate Michael Spahr and Diane Logan, proving my point that the brainwashing of the right has been so effective as to ensnared its audience into believing that what offends them is more important than what affects them. While you are distracted by culture wars, your party of "limited government," is passing laws as to what we can read, say and who we choose to be. The right at least has one consistency … ignorance is best!

This intellect could not have summed up the current state of the GQP versus reality more precisely, and he died more than 50 years ago! It is not difficult to understand that the party that is literally, actively and successfully convincing its constituents that they know more than professionals that have been working in their fields for decades, all the while advocating for maintaining a culture of willful ignorance. Burn that book, it makes me feel uncomfortable!
What part of your brain allows you to think that the doom and despair that the right wing media is feeding you is actually affecting you? The right has their undies in a bundle over trans people, gay cakes and any mention of the fact that racism exists, all the while things like a living wage, health care for children and the elderly, reducing or eliminating poverty for said children and elderly are all lost because all you care about is one trans woman winning a swimming match. Oh, and that gas prices are high.
I know that all you right wing propaganda zealots love to blame Biden and the Dems for inflation and high gas prices but there is no denying that these are, as per the desires of all us capitalists, a function of the markets and not the government. Unless of course, you would prefer, we nationalize these industries so that the president can dictate what these formerly private companies must do to make sure that your precious 15 mpg, $45,000 truck doesn't cost you a dime more to fill.
Cognitive dissonance is a powerful drug and one craved by the "I'm afraid to learn" crowd, the same "pro life" crowd that cries "I was scared, so you had to die as I stand my ground."
Now I know that under Trump you people would be all OK with him taking over these industries to keep prices low, but really, can your brain reconcile, the president controlling prices and a capitalist society?
Oh, no, you unwittingly want, the oligarchy of Russia.
