Taking issue with previous writer's points
To the editor:
This is response to Mr. Spahr's letter published on March 14.
First of all, I am glad to see that he believes in climate change, unfortunately his response of not worrying about it is the typical nonsense that all Republicans make.
As to the government "paying people more to stay home." that is complete and utter bovine fecal matter.
The one thing that I do agree with him on is that local businesses are advertising for workers. Has Mr. Spahr thought that one of the reasons that they are not getting people applying for those jobs is that the pay is not enough especially in this day and age with corporations and businesses claiming record breaking profits but still increasing their prices to the general public? Can we all say greed? Not to his CEO closing the business down.
Really, Mr. Spahr, what about the other greedy people that he has to answer to before he even thinks about closing down the stock and share owners? Do you honestly think that they would let him close down? Now who is living in cloud cuckoo land?
As for him taking the risk in the first place, so what, he made his money, he has obviously paid off his loans, paid for the licenses, and followed the regulations, and this off the hard work that his employees do while he sits on his gluteus maximus doing nothing more than raking money in.
And sorry Mr. Spahr, but people like you claim that no one is worth at least $15 an hour yet applaud when a rich person makes a few thousand a minute. Can we say that you and people of your ilk have got the world backward?
Another thing why should the workers of the CEO appreciate his efforts when all they see is him going on vacation after vacation after vacation, while they struggle with everyday expenses such as putting food on their tables to feed their family, such as keeping a roof over their heads? No, Mr. Spahr, Republicans are in the wrong when they make being poor out to be bad and being a selfish rich person as being good. So much for the party of family and Christian values.
Now to the Ukraine, you do know that it is kind of hard to have business as usual when your country is being invaded. Maybe you should think on that.
As for you claiming that "liberal progressives aren't salivating at the power that Putin has" I don't know where you got that warped idea from but I can tell you that you are completely wrong. No sane person, excluding the Republican pundits, would want that power. Just look to the news to see who is actually backing Russia and then look at their vehicles with a Z on it -- guaranteed they are Republican.
Even some of your congressmen such has Marjorie Taylor Greene have made money from the Ukrainian invasion. She was even at a white supremacist meeting in which they praised Putin, which does not surprise me.
As for what happened in Moscow with people being arrested for their social media posts, well that is what happens under dictators. Just be glad that your boy Trump was voted out as he was nothing more than a wannabe dictator himself. You just have to look at how he did nothing during the Jan. 6 insurrection to see that. He wanted to steal power by having a fair election overturned.
Now to his claim that I am more Republican than I ever knew. Sorry Mr. Spahr but you lost that point, I am not and never will be a Republican. I am a proud Democrat and always will be. And that, sir, is being honest with myself, unlike Republicans who lie to themselves and others all the time.
