To the editor:
This is in response to the letter that was published on Dec. 31, 2021 from Mr. Stephen Sellers.
Mr. Sellers, in your letter which you claimed to be factual is in actuality only your opinion. The only things that you got right or even half right was your name and what a protest used to be like and only partially on that.
Let's start with those victims that Rittenhouse shot, and yes they are victims not perpetrators as you and the judge at Rittenhouse's trial claimed. Until actual proof such as an eyewitness or photographs of them showing them in the act of committing a crime, then they are only alleged perpetrators. That they committed any crime at all is only an assumption from you and people that believe that Rittenhouse did no wrong.
Another thing, Mr. Sellers, can you say without a doubt that they were going to kill Rittenhouse? I mean did you read their minds or did you make an assumption? As for what Rittenhouse did, sorry but you have to be blind not to see that he committed murder.
In your letter you claim "that I need to get my head out of that dark place and smell the coffee." Wow, Mr. Sellers, if you mean watch the lying GOP propaganda machine known as Fox News, why don't you just say that? But in keeping with your wording, I cannot watch any right wing media network including Fox without being sick due to the smell of male bovine fecal matter that they spew.
You claim that you agree that all people should be treated the same while in police custody, I am going to call you out on that. Your letters, both previously published and those praising Rittenhouse, his actions and the judge's actions prove otherwise. No letter from you was ever published condemning the deaths of people of color while in police custody or while being apprehended. No letter from you condemning the death of Brionna Taylor who was shot by police while she was sleeping in her own bed after police raided the wrong address, no letter from you condemning the death of George Floyd who had his throat knelt on for nine minutes by a police officer.
No all we ever hear from the right wing and especially on right wing media is things such as the police were only doing their job to bringing up the past of the victims of police brutality. No, Mr. Sellers, I do not believe you and your claim of believing that people should be treated the same.
Now to the scenario that you gave for what a "protest" should be, which by the way is only half the story. Let's take a look at some historic protests that were carried out peacefully. Let's look at the civil rights protests of the '60s led by Dr. Martin Luther King. Law enforcement turned water cannons on the protesters, that was after they took the flags that were being waved by the protesters.
Wow, let's forget the police and national guard troops that used batons and violence to break up those protests. Yes, Mr. Sellers they were "real" protests and, yes, I am being sarcastic.
Now to the Democrats that paid the bail for some of the protesters. How is that any different to the right wing and white supremacist groups collecting money for the defense of Rittenhouse? The last I heard they had collected just over $2 million for him.
Maybe you think that is OK for the right wing to pay for a criminal aka a right wing media hero but not Democrats to pay for bail for protesters.
