Our seniors need the help of generous volunteers

To the editor:

I am a lifelong resident of Mifflin County. Most of my life, I’ve lived in the south end of Lewistown.

You might remember me as the lady with the stop sign on South Main Street ensuring your children got to school at 7th Ward Elementary (those days are long past), or you may recognize me as the lady who brought your loved ones home-delivered meals or maybe you dealt with me whenever you received your farmers’ market voucher or your commodity food.

Any and all of those jobs were the highlight of my life, not because I made a lot of money, but because I really enjoy doing them and helping others less fortunate than myself.

If you’re ever felt the way I do (money isn’t everything) and you enjoy helping others and you’re a warm, honest, caring person, please consider being a volunteer home-delivered meal driver.

The job is not hard. The only bad thing is watching the consumer go downhill and eventually end up in a nursing home or passing on.

I have done volunteer work for the past 21 years and can truly say I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I’m no longer a volunteer, but drivers are always needed.

So, please check it out. Our seniors need you.
