Williams honored for volunteer efforts with Sports Hall of Fame

Induction into a hall of fame — or recognition by one — represents more than a plaque or ceremony. It reflects dedication, commitment and service to a community over time. For the second year in a row, The Sentinel has the honor of recognizing one of its own as the Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame honors reporter Greg Williams with its volunteer award.

Williams is being recognized for his efforts in helping establish the organization and for the support he has continued to provide through the years.

Over the years, Williams served in a variety of newsroom roles while also becoming well known for his sports coverage. Though he left The Sentinel in 1999 to work at the Pottstown Mercury, he continued contributing sports previews, special sections and coverage of local sporting events connected to the Juniata River Valley.

He returned to The Sentinel full time in a remote capacity in 2022.

Even while living outside the area, Williams said Mifflin County always remained close to him.

Williams said the relationships he has built in journalism remain among the most meaningful parts of his career.

“I’ve met some amazing storytellers and made lifelong friends,” he said. “I treasure both and look forward to making many more.”

While his byline has appeared on thousands of stories over the years, his willingness to volunteer his time and energy to help build and support the Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame made him a fitting choice for recognition.

Congratulations, Greg, and thank you for your continued dedication to the local sports community.

Starting at $2.99/week.
