What is a patriot?
Today’s Sentinel features our JV magazine spotlighting patriots.
When we think of patriots, we often picture those who serve in the military. While they certainly embody patriotism, the definition reaches far beyond traditional roles. Patriots can be found throughout our communities — in many forms and walks of life.
The Juniata Valley is a special place, rich in history and grounded in the values of small-town living. It is a community where neighbors know and care about one another, where you can choose to live quietly or be deeply involved. Local businesses, institutions, and organizations work together to strengthen the region and improve quality of life for all.
We believe a patriot is any person — or organization — that strives to make life better for others and demonstrates loyalty to friends, family, and country. Patriotism is reflected not only in service, but also in commitment, generosity, leadership, and community spirit.
As our nation celebrates its 250th birthday this year, it feels like the perfect time to recognize and honor the patriots in our own backyard. There are so many deserving individuals and groups that we know we could not include them all, but we have done our best to highlight a representative group. In doing so, we were reminded once again of the many positives our area has to offer.
To all the patriots of the Juniata Valley — individuals and organizations alike — thank you. You make this community unique. You make it home.
We also extend our gratitude to the writers who contributed to this special section and to the family members and friends who shared their stories with us.
We hope you enjoy this year’s edition of JV Magazine: Patriots.
