Induction into the Hall of Fame is the mark of excellence. It is recognition for career achievement. It is an honor a lifetime in the making.

The Lewistown Sentinel honors one of its own this month.

Brian Carson, Sentinel reporter and County Observer managing editor, will be given special recognition by the Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame on May 10 for his writing and broadcast work covering local sports.

Brian’s dedication to local sports began with a Sentinel column in 1992. In 33 years, his resume also includes broadcasting high school sports on radio, his MifflinCountyWrestling.com website and Mifflin County Wrestling Facebook page (facebook.com/mifflincountywrestling/).

His passion for sports, especially football, wrestling, baseball and hockey, have propelled him through his career as a dedicated, talented, versatile and professional journalist. His career has broadened through the years into news and other assignments. Regardless of the situation, Brian was and is ready to meet the challenge.

As lofty as the accolades are for his work, they are even higher for Brian as a person. Recent health issues have sidelined him for brief periods. Events that might sideline another individual have not dampened his spirit. His determination to write is matched only by his wit and sense of humor. Attitude goes a long way.

Regardless of topic, Brian has a unique perspective. Sports, music and politics are all well within his domain. His favorite teams? The Los Angeles Rams? UCLA? The Washington Nationals? Ask and you will get an honest appraisal.

His local sports coverage is spot on. Within the past year, Brian covered Mifflin County’s first PIAA state champion in cross country as Carter Smith made his run to glory. Brian also contributed to Juniata Valley Magazine with an inspiring story on Special Olympics coach Kenny Varner.

Brian deserves the call to the Hall. His work deserves it as well. The area sports pages and airwaves are better for having experienced his talent.
