Ciccolini shines light on Lewistown, Mifflin County

Last weekend former Mifflin County student and current Missouri javelin thrower Skylar Ciccolini placed 10th at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Let that sink in for a moment — a local athlete that we had the privilege of following since she was in high school — was in the finals at the Olympic trials! How amazing!

In fact, she is the second local athlete this year to compete at the Olympic trials, with fellow former Husky Trent Hidaly placing 3rd in Freestyle Wrestling. Locals can be very proud of these top level athletes.

Ciccolini is from Lewistown and is a graduate student with the Mizzou Tigers. Her sister Taylor competes alongside her at Missouri as well, adding to the local connection.

Not only is her success a positive light on Lewistown/Mifflin County, but her story adds to the idea that athletes from small towns can work diligently and compete at the top levels.

Skylar was a two-time state champion for Mifflin County High School. Other accolades include being a three-time All-Stater, USATF All-American, New Balance Outdoor All-American, and a four-time Mid-Penn All-Conference team member. She also set the Missouri school record with a throw of 56.08m in 2021.

Skylar’s family is also an athletic one as both her father Floyd and mother Danielle threw javelin at Cornell University during their college days.

Ciccolini’s run at the college level is one that people can look at and feel inspired by.

With Ciccolini making noise at a SEC school like Mizzouri, future college students can feel like they can have dreams about competing on a bigger stage whether they’re going to high school near a city or in a small town like Lewistown.

Way to go Skylar! We couldn’t be more proud of you!
