Americans might not agree on some things but voting on Election Day isn't one of them. About 70% of adults across the country believe it's important to vote in elections to be a good member of society. It's your civic duty!
There's plenty people don't agree on. By comparison, fewer than half of Americans considered it important to get a COVID-19 vaccine (44%), to make choices that help reduce the effects of global climate change (42%) or to follow what's happening in politics in this country (37%).
Even fewer are concerned with current events in other countries (22%) or attend religious services frequently (22%).
Back to the matter at hand, which is today's primary elections.
While this is just a primary election, your vote still matters. It only takes a few moments to head to the polls and cast your vote with your fellow Americans.
It's a critical moment for voters to make their voices heard as the winners will be on the general election ballot in the fall. While this is a presidential election year, there are also lots of local races with seats up for grabs in different precincts.
In the race for President of the United States, Joe Biden and Dean Phillips are vying for the Democratic nomination. Turning to the Republican primary, voters will decide between Nikki Haley and Donald Trump for their party's presidential nomination.
Local election officials encourage all eligible voters to participate in the democratic process, stating, "Do your civic duty and vote for what and who you feel is right." They're right when they say the power of each individual vote can help shape the future of communities, states and the nation.
By actively participating in the primaries, you are playing a vital role in determining the political landscape of your region and beyond, setting the stage for the general election.
Stay informed, engage in meaningful discussion and, most importantly, vote. The future of the Juniata Valley - and the nation as a whole - rests in the hands of its resolute and engaged citizenry.
