While Easter is just around the corner, that's not the only purpose of this scavenger egg hunt -- we hope parents will use this opportunity to teach their kids about the unique area we live in and maybe meet local shop owners that have made Lewistown their home base.
Locals will be able to appreciate the growth that has occurred that is happening downtown.
What were once empty storefronts are quickly filling up with artisans, craftsmans and shop owners that make downtown so charming.
Perhaps for youth, this can also be an exercise in learning the importance of keeping their dollars local.
Cardboard eggs aren't the only type that can be spotted in the Juniata River Valley this season.
While the Easter bunny will be furiously hiding candy-filled plastic eggs in households, he is also planning stops at various churches and parks throughout the region.
In Juniata County, the Lighthouse Community Church in Mifflintown is hosting the sixth annual community-wide Easter egg hunt March 23 for ages 2-12.
The Juniata Valley YMCA in Burnham is offering an underwater Easter egg hunt for youth 14 and under who are ready to jump in the pool and scavenge for prize-filled eggs.
Many other area churches are also hosting festivities planned for children this season. Overall, it's a good time to get outside, reconnect.
Just don't forget to thank the volunteers and community members who work tirelessly behind the scenes -- after all, the Easter bunny wouldn't be able to pull it all off without their help.
