Blood donors are always needed

2 min read

Tired of being asked to give blood? Imagine being the person lying in a hospital bed hoping there is enough of your particular blood type on hand to provide the care you need.

The demand for donated blood and plasma does not go away after a large donation event or surge of donors because of the last special incentive.

It is constant.

It is likely you know someone who has been helped -- or even saved -- because of blood and blood product donation. Take a look at social media when there are thank-yous from patients who know of donors whose effort may have helped keep them alive.

The need is everywhere.

But, because it does help to know there is something in it for donors (other than the knowledge of helping our fellow human beings), the American Red Cross partnered this season with Sport Clips Haircuts to give away a VIP Nascar racing experience, and can also receive a free haircut.

"Those who give this fall play an important role in keeping the blood supply on track for patients counting on blood products for care -- especially ahead of the busy holiday season," the Red Cross noted, in announcing the partnership.

If you are eligible and able, consider donating. Go to redcrossblood.org to get started.

If you've got a fear to overcome in donating blood, surely the knowledge that you might save a life will do the trick. You are needed. And you will make a difference.
