Born on Aug. 14, 1956, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lucille (Bibbie) Gearhart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Wagner.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Debra (Wilson) Gearhart; his daughters, Jolene Gearhart and Kristen Gearhart, all of Lewistown; two cherished grandchildren; his siblings, Larry Gearhart of Yeagertown, Linda Brittain and her husband, Dennis, of Siglerville, and Joann Lynn and her husband, Gregory, of Reedsville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A proud 1976 graduate of Chief Logan High School, Steve went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to working for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a security guard in Harrisburg. He also served his local community as an auxiliary police officer with the Lewistown Police Department, helping provide security at numerous local sporting events and parades.

Steve was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also had a playful side and especially loved giving those closest to him a hard time, bringing laughter and a bit of good-natured teasing to the relationships he treasured.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at Mt. Rock Cemetery, with Pastor Chris Lutz officiating. Military honors will be presented in recognition of Steve's honorable service to his country.
