Starr Lea Corson

Starr Lea Corson, 77, of McClure, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.

Born Sept. 25, 1949, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Dorothy (Hartsock) Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard âJohnã âRudã Retherford.

Starr attended Chief Logan High School before graduating from Lewistown High School in 1968. During her senior year, she was honored by her classmates when she was voted Panther Princess, a fitting reflection of the warmth and affection she inspired in those around her.

Starr is survived by her loving husband, Raymond âButchã Corson; her daughter, Angel Romig, of McClure; her son, Michael A. R. Corson and his fiancé, Debby Zurinski, of Lewistown; her grandchildren, Amy and her husband, Jonathan, Emily and her husband, Cameron, and Spencer and his fiancé, Amber; her great-grandchildren, Luna, Iris, Violet, and Luna; her siblings, Glenn Ramsey Jr., of Lewistown, Dottie Wilt and her husband, Timothy, of Alfarata, and Sue Alexander, of Burnham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews residing throughout the East and West Coasts.

Earlier in life, Starr worked in security at naval bases in Scotland and Rhode Island. As a Navy wife, she and her family experienced many adventures together, particularly during the years they resided at the Nuclear Submarine Base in Holy Loch, Scotland.

She later spent many years working as a cook at various local restaurants before retiring from the Midd-West School District, where she worked as a custodian. Starr had a true gift for making others feel cared for. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and her generosity extended far beyond those she knew.

It was not uncommon for someone to arrive at a restaurant to pay for a meal only to discover that Starr had already taken care of it. She would often give gift cards to friends and even strangers and she especially enjoyed surprising veterans by paying for their meals. Her kindness was not something she simply spoke aboutäit was something she lived. One of Starr's favorite places was Vince's Family Restaurant, where she ate nearly every day and developed a special bond with the staff. She dearly loved them, and that affection was returned as they continued to treat her with extraordinary kindness, particularly as her dementia progressed and she eventually required residential care. Even then, Starr proudly wore her Vince's Family Restaurant shirt, carrying a reminder of a place and people who had become so special to her.

She also enjoyed her visits to Zion Hair Salon in Lewistown to have her hair done. The salon owner, Missy, became a true friend and treated Starr like family. Her kindness toward Starr, especially as her dementia progressed, was a beautiful example of the compassion and love that surrounded Starr throughout her life. Above all else, Starr was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was a blessing to her family and a wonderful mother who worked multiple jobs throughout her life to make certain that her children and later her grandchildren, could have opportunities and experiences she herself could only have wished for. She gave of herself generously and found joy in helping those she loved. There was something especially fitting about Starr's name. A star has long symbolized a light that shines with glory, illuminating the night sky and helping travelers find their way. Starr lived much the same way. She gave freely of herself and helped others in need, and for those blessed to call her mother or grandmother, she devoted herself to guiding them toward their own destinations in life.

Though she has departed this earth, the light of Starr's spirit will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched.

Her family on both the East and West Coasts will miss her dearly, but they will forever cherish the many memories they were blessed to make with her. Their sadness is great, but so too is their comfort in knowing that she suffers no more. Starr was a devoted member of Lewistown Assembly of God Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. Her family takes comfort in knowing that the beautiful Starr who brought so much light to this world now shines eternally in the presence of her Lord, a most beautiful Starr in the Kingdom of God.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Kirk Nagel officiating. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Starr's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
