Robert E. Harkinson

Robert E. Harkinson, 81, of Lewistown, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at William Penn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Oct. 14, 1945, in Milroy, Bob was the son of the late Robert L. and Eleanor A. (Zettle) Harkinson.

He shared nearly 58 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyanna “Joy” (Thomas) Harkinson, a testament to a lifetime of love and devotion.

Bob graduated from Kishacoquillas High School in 1963 before proudly answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968. During his military service, he served in the Signal Corps in Vietnam.

A quiet, kindhearted, and caring man, Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Though he and Joy never had children of their own, he found great joy in spending time with the children of many friends, leaving a lasting impression through his gentle nature and caring heart. He had a deep love for animals and welcomed many beloved pets into his life over the years.

Bob especially cherished his time outdoors, whether boating, camping, or water skiing at Raystown Lake. He also enjoyed taking peaceful drives through the surrounding mountains, appreciating the simple pleasures and beauty of the world around him.

Throughout his working years, Bob was employed by J-Wood, Fisher Electronics, Mexico Forge, and Metalmex. More recently, he found fulfillment in driving school bus for J&D's Inc. and Fisher Brothers Inc.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at King Funeral Home and Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville, with Pastor Randy Traxler officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Juniata Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by the United States Army in recognition of Bob's honorable service to his country.
