Jesse Stephen Kanagy was born to Stephen and Katie Kanagy on Dec. 17, 1933, in Belleville. He peacefully passed away Oct. 14, 2026, at Lewistown Hospital. He was 92 years old.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Marie; and children, Ella and Galen Schmidt of DeRidder, La., John and Sylvia Koehn of Paris, Texas, Grace and Joe Yoder of Sarasota, Fla., Stephen and Arlene Kanagy of McVeytown, Ruth and Byron Koehn of Paris, Texas, Ezra and Gayla Kanagy of Barron, Wis., Nathan and Jerilyn Kanagy of Westgate, Iowa, Jesse and Sarah Kanagy of McVeytown, and Ed and Thelma Goosen of Grandview in Manitoba, Canada.
Also surviving are 43 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and siblings Stephen Kanagy, Lizzie Peachey, and Mary, Mrs. John Kanagy, all of Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah; daughter, Catherine Koehn; granddaughter, Rachel Schmidt; grandsons, Kendall Kanagy and Curtis Smith.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Living Springs Mennonite Church, 565 Ridge Road, McVeytown.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at the church.
