Jean E. Xanthopoulos

Jean E. Xanthopoulos, 72, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at her home.

Born Jan. 1, 1954, she was the daughter of the late James and Delilah (Brown) Lerch.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, James W. “Jimmy” Xanthopoulos; daughters, Josie Xanthopoulos and her husband, Brett Rogers, of McVeytown, and Julie Xanthopoulos and her husband, Brian Quinlan, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Vann Rogers, Jaxon Rogers, Delilah Quinlan, and James Quinlan; and sister, Lila Thomas, of Belleville.

Jean graduated from Penn Highlands High School in 1971 and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from West Virginia University in 1975. She began her career at the Lewistown Sentinel before devoting many meaningful years to her family as a homemaker. In 1979, she co-founded Jim's Scrap Metals and remained a co-owner until her passing. In her later years, she and her husband purchased and lovingly restored a farmstead, which became a cherished place for her to enjoy the outdoors, garden, and celebrate many joyous occasions with those she loved.

Above all, Jean's family was the center of her world, and she especially treasured her grandchildren.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital.

Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home in Lewistown.
