James D. Wilhelm, 86, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at Valley View Haven.
Born on Nov. 14, 1939, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James E. and Frances K. (Shimp) Wilhelm.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. (Ronk) Wilhelm.
He is survived by his children, Brian Wilhelm and his wife, Tracy, of Milroy, and Brent Wilhelm and his wife, Deb, of Enola; and his grandchildren, Gretchen Wilhelm and Laura Wilhelm and her husband, Andrew Lightner.
Jim was a 1957 graduate of Chief Logan High School and proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA and belonged to the Union County Sportsmen's Club.
For many years, Jim was part of the church family at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Yeagertown. The family would also like to thank the Rev. Carla Volland for her visits with Jim.
Jim worked as a salesman at Fay Wagner's tire shop in Yeagertown for more than 40 years before retiring. One of Jim's greatest joys was seeing the customers who became cherished friends over the years.
Jim treasured time with his family and friends. He always had a warm smile to share and a cheerful chuckle that brought a smile to those around him. He also enjoyed caring for his cabin in New Lancaster Valley, and he cherished sharing good times there with family and friends, especially during hunting season.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Jim's neighbors for their friendship, support, and many acts of kindness, and to the caring staff at Valley View Haven for the kindness and compassionate care they provided to Jim.
