Donna L. Koontz, 93, of Lewistown, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, Oct. 3, 2026, at her home.
Born Nov. 11, 1932, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late James and Naomi (Fink) Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Koontz; her son, Gregory Koontz; and her brothers, William Long and James Long Sr.
Donna's greatest joy was found in the love she shared with her family. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Koontz and his wife, Susan, of Burnham; her daughter-in-law, Ruby Koontz, of Lewistown; her grandchildren, Natalie Sutton and her husband, Donovan, Nathan Koontz, Joshua Koontz, and Lucas Koontz; her great-grandchildren, Hunter Sutton and Sydney Koontz; and her great-great-grandson, Lucas Sutton.
Donna's life was one defined by compassion and caring for others. In 1979, she graduated from the LPN program at Juniata-Mifflin Counties Area Vocational Technical School and went on to dedicate 28 years of her life to caring for others as an LPN at Lewistown Hospital. For Donna, nursing was far more than a profession, it was a calling. She believed every patient deserved the very best care possible, and she consistently gave far beyond what was expected, treating those in her care with genuine kindness, dignity, and compassion. Donna took great pride in being a nurse and was known for wearing her traditional nursing cap even after it was no longer required, a small but meaningful reflection of the pride she carried in the profession she loved.
Her caring spirit extended well beyond her years as a nurse. Donna was the kind of person who could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply be there when someone needed her. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Evangel Baptist Church. In more recent years, she attended Lewistown Alliance Church.
While Donna touched the lives of many through her work and kindness, her family held the most special place in her heart. The love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of the family she leaves behind.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at King Funeral Home and Crematory, 47 Carriage House Lane, Reedsville, with Pastor John Looney officiating. Family and friends will be received from 6 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorial contributions in Donna's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
