James Henry Whitford, 79, of Reedsville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.
Born on Dec. 20, 1946, in Utica, N.Y., Jim was the son of James and Loretta (Kopp) Whitford, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Whitford, Alice Lenning, and Thomas Whitford.
Jim was married to and is survived by Joyce (Cheselske) Whitford, with whom he shared a life and built a wonderful family legacy. He is also survived by his brother, John Whitford, and John's wife, Patti.
A loving father and grandfather, Jim took immense pride in his three children and 10 grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Sasha Althouse, her husband, Nate, and their children, Spencer, Harper, and Summer Althouse; his son, Nathan Whitford, his wife, Dana, and their children, Ava and Jonathan Whitford; and his daughter, Thea Leddy, her husband, Scott, and their children, Nathaniel, Kayla, Micah, Isabella, and Olivia Leddy.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge. His service reflected the deep love and respect he held for his country throughout his life.
Following his military service, Jim studied physical chemistry and built a successful career in marketing and sales within the chromatography industry. His work took him across the United States and around the world, allowing him to experience many cultures, form lasting relationships, and share his knowledge and passion for science.
Above all, Jim cherished his family and his country. He found great joy in spending time with those he loved and took particular pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and embraced the freedom and adventure of the open road.
Those who knew Jim will remember his intelligence, generosity, patriotism, and unwavering devotion to his family. Whether he was offering advice, sharing stories from his travels, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Jim made a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Jim's legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched through his service, career, and friendships.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026 at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 6880 SR 655, Reedsville, with Pastor Scott Leddy officiating.
