Emmett Shutes went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sept. 8, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Irene and Emmett Benjamin Shutes and his brother, Mark Shutes.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kelly Shutes; his sister, Marsha Sawdon and her husband, Phil and son Davy, of Leicester, UK; his sister in law, Mary Ellen Shutes, of Youngstown, O.H. and her daughte,r Megan Shutes, New York, N.Y.; his loving children, Tim Shutes and wife, Sarah, New York, N.Y., and Kylene Young and husband, Paul David, of Chicago, IL, stepsons, Matthew Sunderland, of Cypress, Calif., and Adam Sunderland and his wife, Evelyn, of Grand Rapids, MI; and his 10 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Felicity, Clara and Eleanor Shutes; Julien and Asher Young; Clara and Jack Sunderland; and Ellis, Henning and Milo Sunderland.
His extraordinary life included service to his country in the Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969, many professional bowling accomplishments including 8 sanctioned 300 games, taking a Professional Bowlers Association title in 1979 by winning the Showboat Invitational Tournament, coaching women's bowling at Penn State and owning his own pro-shop in Allentown, Pa.
Emmett was inducted into the USBC PA State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1997. Not only was he an amazing bowler, but he also used these skills to touch others' lives through volunteer coaching with the Special Olympics. He earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Penn State University. He spent the rest of his career working at State of the Art in State College, PA until his retirement in 2010.
Despite these accomplishments and momentous life events, his most cherished moments in his life were his marriage to Kelly on Jan. 10, 2009, and their quiet life together with their cat in their home in Lewistown. First and foremost, Emmett was a devoted follower of Christ and strived to share the Gospel with anyone who would listen. He lived out his life verse, Romans 8:28. Those who survive him will keep this verse in their hearts as they forever remember him and his love for God, family and neighbor.
A memorial service in loving memory of Emmett will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at Calvary Bible Church, 100 Calvary Lane, Lewistown PA 17044, with Pastors Jonathan God and Don McClune officiating.
