Nick A. Foster, 76, of Harrisburg, passed away on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. He was born in Pittsburgh on May 31, 1950 to the late Zelda Foster Bouder. Through DNA testing in 2018, he found that his father was Pete Haines, Sr.
Nick attended Foose Elementary School and Edison Jr. High in Harrisburg. He graduated from Lewistown Granville High School in 1969, while living with his grandparents, Walter and Edna Mann Foster. He attended Shippensburg State College and later received an Associate's Degree from HACC. Nick felt so lucky to work as a police officer for 33 years. He loved helping people and guiding citizens down the right path. He started his career with the Harrisburg City Police for five years, then Conrail Police for six years, and finally retired from Lower Paxton Township Police after 22 years of service. After retirement, he worked as a Parole Officer at Dauphin County Work Release and most recently as a driver at Keystone Correctional Services. He also maintained a lawn service for many years. His lifelong hobby was his work.
Family meant everything to him. He initiated monthly Brothers' dinners, and brunches with his siblings and spouses. After raising families, it was wonderful to reconnect with each other.
Nick is survived by his wife, Mary Carlson Foster; his daughter, Niki (Brian) DeMeester; his grandson, Connor Adams; his siblings, Steve (Gayle) Bouder, Toby (Judy) Bouder, Pete (Carolyn) Haines Jr., and Kathleen (late Bill) Mangold; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Sharing will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at 1 p.m., at Hetrick Bitner Funeral Home, Inc., 3125 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation from 12 to 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lower Paxton Township Police Department, 425 Prince St #320, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
