John W. Bigelow Sr., 88, of Lewistown, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at Greenwood Village.
Born May 6, 1938, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Richard W. and Dorothy E. (Knode) Bigelow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard A. Bigelow and a son-n-law, Dwight Kirkland.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Marcia A. "Marcy" (McKinley) Bigelow, whose companionship and love were central to his life; children, John W. Bigelow Jr. and wife, Lou Ann, of N.Y., Kay Kirkland, of Mifflintown, Michel L. Bigelow and wife, Deb, of Lewistown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert L. Bigelow and wife, Kweta, of Germany.
John was a life member of Yeagertown Fire Company. He was a 1938 graduate of Chief Logan High School.
In his younger years, John and his father were in the painting business. He then worked in the Wheel Rolling Mill at Standard Steel, where he dedicated many years of skilled, reliable service before retiring.
John was a member of Johnson's Spring Hunting Camp and also Brook Point Lodge where he enjoyed hunting, vacationing, and playing cards with his friends.
Honoring his wishes, no services will be held. His family and friends will remember him in their own ways, through shared stories, familiar memories, and the steady presence he brought to their lives.
