John W. Baker

John W. Baker, 83, of Allensville, passed away at his home on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026.

Born on Nov. 10, 1942, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mary (Mowery) Baker. On Dec. 13, 1969, he married Frances (Decker) Baker at the Alexandria Presbyterian Church, with Reverend John Dean officiating. Frances survives at their home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Susanne Lewandowski and her husband, Todd, of Gibsonia, Pa., and Jon Scott Baker and his wife, Melissa, of Manchester, Pa. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Jonathan Lewandowski and his wife, Laura, of Allison Park, Pa., Lauren Lewandowski, of Gibsonia, Pa., and Andrew and Garrett Baker, both of Manchester, Pa. A great-grandchild is on the way. He is also survived by several nephews Gary Baker, of Grandville, O.H., Chuck Baker, of Vandergrift, Pa., Brian Baker, of Lewistown, and Ken and John Baker, both of RI.

He was the last surviving member of his family, as he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor “Dick” Baker and Marlin Baker.

John graduated from Kishacoquillas High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He then worked as a shop planner at New Holland until his retirement in 1998.

A longtime member of the Allensville Community Church, he served faithfully as a trustee, session member, and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Allensville Lions Club, coached Huntingdon Little League and Teener League and volunteered for many years with the Huntingdon Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. He also served on the Brady Township Election Board for ten years and was a past member of the VFW Color Guard.

John cherished time with his family, loved his cat Sophie, and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, baseball, trips to Disney World, and riding through Hershey Chocolate World.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Allensville Community Church, with Pastor Buddy Baird officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Elliott Acres Therapeutic Riding Center, 168 Headland Road, Butler, PA 16002.
