John Richard ‘Jack’ VanSciver

John Richard "Jack" VanSciver, 83, of Huntingdon, was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on Aug. 11, 2026.

Born Feb. 9, 1943, in Riverside, N.J., Jack was the son of the late John Hillary VanSciver and Constance Barbara (Maurer) VanSciver. He was the brother of Hilary Jean Monyer and Lorraine Claire Wolvin, both of whom arrived in Heaven ahead of him, and is survived by his sister, Connie Sue Lopert of Burlington, N.J.

Jack was the devoted husband of Susan Jane (Hopkins) VanSciver for 58 years, and the loving father of Holly VanSciver of Belleville, and Jennifer Hahn, wife of Mark Hahn, of Manheim. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Natalie Hahn Dignoti, wife of Nikolai Dignoti, Emily Hahn, Toby Hahn, and Grace VanSciver; and great-granddaughter, Eleanora Dignoti.

A graduate of Burlington Senior High School (1961), Jack went on to earn his BSEE degree from Drexel University in 1968. In 1969, he came to faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior, a turning point that shaped the entire course of his life.

Jack and Susan answered God's call to missionary service, spending several years with Trans World Radio in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, Jack became a founding engineer for WTLR, a Christian radio station in State College. He later worked at HRB-Singer in State College as a Principal Engineer and Programs Manager.

Jack and Susan then acquired Harmony Christian Bookstore in Huntingdon, where they established Sunday School Direct, a ministry dedicated to providing Sunday school curriculum to churches across the country and around the world. Jack was deeply committed to strengthening and preserving the ministry of Sunday schools worldwide.

A lifelong ham radio operator beginning at age 14, Jack was first licensed as K2BNS in Burlington, N.J., then PJ9BN in Bonaire, and finally NA3F in Pennsylvania. He earned numerous awards and found great joy in the hobby throughout his life.

Jack was a member of Stone Valley Bible Church in Huntingdon, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School volunteer.

Private services and interment were held at the Stone Valley Bible Church.
