John Oscar Bashore

John Oscar Bashore, 94, of Mifflintown (Tyson Hill), passed away on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at Celebration Villa of Reedsville.

Born on April 27, 1932, in Mexico, Pa., he is the son of the late Clyde and Ada (Wagner) Bashore.

On Dec. 10, 1955, he married his late wife, Anna Mae (Lauver) Bashore, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage before her passing on Feb. 11, 2025.

He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey O. Bashore and wife, Vickie, and Rodney P. Bashore and companion, Samantha Bowsman; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Roger Clyde Bashore; one grandson, Jeremy Roger Bashore; and one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Bashore and his wife, Dorothy.

John was a 1951 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and was a member of the East Salem Otterbein Church for many years.

In earlier life, he worked at Precision Ware in Newport and Thompsontown, later becoming Triangle Pacific before going to Standard Steel in Burnham where he worked his way up from a Laborer to a Supervisor in the Close Pie Forge Shop, retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. Also, his whole life, he built and installed custom kitchens and cabinetry. He and his brother also sawed their own timber and constructed their own homes, which he was very proud of.

He enjoyed tinkering with wood and metals; tractors, especially his old Allis Chalmers tractor; and being in the woods, however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved late canine companion, Nick.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Pastor Doug Mellott officiating. Interment will follow at Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
