Clarence "Alan" Swigart, 95, of Butler, Pa., passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. Clarence was known as Alan by his family and friends. He was born Oct. 19, 1930, to Clarence and Laura (Leibrand) Swigart, who preceded him in death.
Alan enjoyed his early life raising animals, farming, hunting and fishing at his home in McVeytown. He continued that love of gardening and hunting and fishing throughout his life, including many trips to Wyoming to hunt.
Alan was drafted into the US Army and served 1954-1956 in Germany where he was able to travel throughout France, England, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. Following his time in the service, he owned an Esso station in Mechanicsburg, Pa. In 1963, he went to work for New Holland Farm Machinery as a field service representative. This brought him and his family to Bedford, Pa. and eventually to Butler. His assigned territory allowed him to travel extensively in Western Pa., Eastern O.H., the majority of W.V. and southeast N.Y. He retired in 1991 and continued working part time for a New Holland and then a Komodo dealer.
Throughout their lives, Alan and his wife, Joyce spent many years enjoying camping with family and friends in and around PA. Of particular enjoyment, were the many trips with their friends in the BUCO camping club. After retirement, he and Joyce escaped the cold Pa. winters and spent 12 winters camping with friends in Naples, Fla.
Alan is survived by brother-in-law, Loren Wagner, sisters-in-laws, Ruth Fisher and Thelma French; his daughter, Kim (Bill) Cassara; his son, Mike (Brenda) Swigart; his four grandchildren, David Stilwell, Cody (Rachel) Swigart, Dixon (Juliane) Cassara and Paige Cassara; and one great granddaughter, Serafina Cassara.
Along with his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Joyce, an infant son; brothers, Lester Ackerly, Dale Swigart and sister, Kathryn Wagner; brothers-in-law, Calvin Fisher, Sheldon French and Robert Espigh; and sisters-in-law Jean Espigh and Anna Yoder.
The family would like to extend thanks to the wonderful VA staff who cared for him for many years and to Newhaven Court at Clearview where he spent the last 10 months of his life.
