Nancy J. Billett
Nancy J. Billett, 94, of Burnham, passed away on July 4, 2026 – a date deeply meaningful to her as a proud patriot. Born Aug. 14, 1931, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Harry H. and Stella V. Billett and sister to Fay Billett Leeper, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Joanne Billett White and husband Harry Jr., along with nephews Steve White and Harry White III, and niece Sandra White.
Nancy grew up in Burnham and graduated from Burnham High School in 1949. In 1952, she enlisted in the U.S. Women’s Air Force Band, serving during the Korean War and performing for troops, civilians, parades, and military homes across the country, including Alaska.
After her service, she built an impressive academic and professional career in Memphis, earning bachelors and master’s degrees from Memphis State University, followed by a PhD from the University of Mississippi. She taught at Memphis State and later at California State University, Los Angeles, where she became Professor Emeritus. She authored numerous articles, lectured widely, and served as Editor of the California Business Education Journal.
Nancy retired in 1985 and continued working in court reporting, gardening, real estate, and home care before returning to Burnham to live with her sister and brother-in-law.
A graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience. Memorial donations may be made to the Homeless Shelter of Mifflin and Juniata County.
