John D. ‘Mope’ Stroup Jr.

John D. “Mope” Stroup Jr., 75, of Belleville, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born on Oct. 10, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late John D. Stroup, Sr. and Louise Stroup.

Surviving are children: John D. “JD” Stroup, III and Alicia M. Rowley, of Belleville; grandchildren: Alivia, Annalee, and Adalyn Stroup, all of Belleville; sister: Cindy Beal, of Lewistown; and brother, James Stroup and wife, Sandy, of Milroy.

He was a 1968 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He then attended Manatee Junior College in Florida for one year. After college, he worked at the Belleville Flour Mill for a year, then went to work at Abbotts Dairy/Fairmont Foods/Dean Foods for 40 years until his retirement.

John was a well-known antique dealer. His hobbies included golfing, especially with his good friend Ron Beckwith, working in his garden, and watching the Phillies games.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.
