Janice A. Barton, 81, formerly of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.
Born on April 9, 1945, in Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Joseph S. Barton Sr. and Ethel (DaCosta) Barton.
Janice is survived by her brother, Joseph S. Barton Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Milroy; her sister, June Hunt, of Texas; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Lori, Jeff, Marc, Kevin, Jim, and Amy.
A 1963 graduate of North Plainfield High School, Janice continued her education at Montclair State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1967. She began her career as a music educator, teaching in the New Jersey school system for nine years before relocating to Lewistown in 1976. After settling in Pennsylvania, she established a private piano studio, where she shared her love of music with countless students over the years.
Janice will be fondly remembered for her remarkable musical talent as both an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Her passion for music, coupled with her patient and encouraging spirit, left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was also a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lewistown.
Services will be held at a future date.
