Helen F. Rhodes

Born Oct. 21, 1928, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Florence C. (Gearhart) Buchanan. Her husband, Guy S. Rhodes, whom she married Aug. 27, 1955, preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2021.

Also preceding her in death was a son, Arnie R. Rhodes; twin infant sons; and six siblings, Martha Irvin, Elwood Buchanan, Irene Collanbine, Russell Buchanan, Betty Collanbine, and Paul Buchanan.

Surviving are five children, Donald L. Rhodes and wife Mary of Belleville, Karen A. Sharpe and husband John of Lancaster, Joyce E. Bailey and husband Clifford, Frances K. Smith and husband Michael Sr., Fred W. Rhodes and wife Debra, all of McVeytown; a brother, Raymond Buchanan of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren, Nick Bailey, Jennifer Casner, Christopher Bailey, Michael Smith Jr., Erin Hostetler, Shelby Bailey, Shannon Eglin, Lukas Rhodes, Kelsey Rhodes, Jesse Rhodes; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Helen was a homemaker and a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren in McVeytown.

She enjoyed flower gardening and watching game shows. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, with Pastor Kate Gandy and Pastor Connie Maclay officiating. Interment will be in Spring Run Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.
