Born on April 23, 1944, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Anna (Weiler) Reynolds.
Mary Ann is survived by her devoted husband, John Guentzel, of Reedsville; her son, Seth Evans and his wife, Laura, of Catonsville, Md., and her cherished grandchildren, Aidan, Liam, and Zoe Evans. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Kochenderfer, and her niece, Maryann Haines, both of Lewistown.
A lifelong learner and traveler, Mary Ann attended Juniata College, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in History. After college, she volunteered for a year with the US Peace Corps, posting in Kastamonu, Turkey, and teaching English to middle-schoolers. Mary Ann briefly returned to the US before going back overseas, traveling in a VW bus for an extended period through Germany, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Spain. After returning to the States, she lived in New Mexico, California, and Texas. While living in Austin, TX, she returned to school to pursue a career in nursing. After becoming a registered nurse, she moved back home to Reedsville and dedicated more than 20 years of compassionate service to Lewistown Hospital Emergency Department before her retirement.
Mary Ann found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid gardener and member of the Mifflin County Garden Club, she also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and drawing. Her love for travel continued throughout her life and took her to destinations both across the United States and around the world, including a favorite trip to Vietnam with her husband. She loved baking and held a tradition of making sand tart cookies every Christmas with her grandchildren.
