Kelly S. McMullen

Kelly S. McMullen, 67, of Harrisburg, formerly of Lewistown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his home.

Born April 27, 1959, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Robert “Butch” and Gladys (Stein) McMullen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Terry McMullen.

Kelly is survived by his brothers, Randy McMullen and his wife, Deb, Ken McMullen and his wife, Georgeann; his sister, Molly McMullen; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he adored.

A 1977 graduate of Lewistown High School, Kelly went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology from California University of Pennsylvania in 1981. He dedicated 30 years of service to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), where he worked as a water analyst until his retirement in 2020. Fifty-one years ago, on June 10, he received a kidney transplant, becoming one of the longest-surviving transplant recipients — a milestone he carried with great pride and gratitude.

Kelly will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, always willing to support and participate in charitable causes within the community. A devoted fan of the Hershey Bears, he was a longtime season ticket holder and enthusiastically participated in the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss, collecting stuffed bears to donate for the event. He also found great joy in attending local community festivals and Celtic festivals.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, with Pastor Ed Kauffman officiating.

Private burial will follow in Juniata Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kelly’s memory may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
