J. Michael ‘Mike’ Wray
J. Michael “Mike” Wray, 73, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, following his final brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 30, 1952, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Sue (Hanna) Wray and Perry G. Wray and was lovingly raised by his father and stepmother, the late JoAnn (Eisenhower) Wray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Kline, and an infant sister, Christi Wray.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Michele (Cross) Wray; his children, Theresa and Stephen Wray, both of North Huntingdon; his sister, Lisa Rankin and her husband, Prestie, of Reedsville; and his cherished feline companions, Granville and Mifflin, who brought him much comfort and joy.
A proud member of the Chief Logan High School Class of 1970, Mike later earned his licensed practical nursing degree from the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. He honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman from 1972 until 1976.
Throughout his life, Mike held a variety of occupations before retiring from First Quality in Lewistown. Beyond his work, he embraced life’s simple pleasures with gratitude and enthusiasm. He possessed a deep passion for photography and especially treasured vacations to Avon in the Outer Banks. Mike loved all animals, great and small, and was a devoted member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Association. He found his greatest peace at home–spending quiet moments on his porch with a cup of coffee in hand, watching the birds gather at his feeders, or taking scenic drives through the mountains he loved so dearly.
Though a man of few words, Mike was genuine, steadfast, and quietly kind. He believed deeply in treating others with compassion, often reminding himself and those around him, “Never complete a day without doing a good deed.” That simple yet profound motto was reflected throughout his life and will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Per Mike’s wishes, all services will be private.
