Brenda J. Deavor

Brenda J. Deavor, 80, of McVeytown, passed on into the beautiful, loving arms of our heavenly Father on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital where she was surrounded by her beautiful children and family.

Brenda was born on Jan. 23, 1946 in McVeytown to the late James Rittenhouse Sr. and the late Edna (Bingaman) Yetter. Brenda was lovingly welcomed and raised by her step-father, Raymond Yetter Sr.

Brenda lovingly married Gerald E. Deavor on June 15, 1960. Together they shared many years of love, laughter, family, and adventure. The two of them together started Deavor’s Home Milk Delivery, where they took great pride in hand delivering milk to the doorsteps of residents within the area. They operated the business for nearly 25 years. Gerald, the devoted love of her life, preceded her in death on July 16, 2019.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melissa Ann Deavor; and a brother, Paul M. Bingaman.

Brenda was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church.

Brenda was a familiar face to just about anyone she met. She worked in many local places throughout her beautiful life. She started out at the Space Diner where her love of people shined through in the way she served. She also worked at the Arrow Shirt Factory and Scotty’s Fashions. Later on in her life she became a familiar face at Yetter’s Restaurant where she prepared and served her customers with a smile that will never be forgotten. Her quick wit and desire to make others feel special and important was such a beautiful part of her. She was “Gram” to just about anyone in her later years and would encourage, support, and help them in any way she could. More recently, she was a very active part of The Kountry Kitchen. While Brenda could no longer physically be in the kitchen, she could often be found wrapping silverware in her trademark booth, smiling and chatting with customers who truly became part of Brenda’s family over the years. If you knew Brenda, you knew love, kindness, mercy, and grace which was a direct reflection of our Lord and Savior.

She loved spending time with her family, but especially her grandkids, they were the highlight of her days. Brenda enjoyed many simple things- car rides through Big Valley, cooking for her family, visiting the Amish shops, getting flowers to display on her porch, as well as local produce. She also found great joy in spending time at the Lewistown Senior Center where she could chat, laugh, and craft with others.

Brenda held a special gratitude for her caregiver, Angela Toddes, who gave comfort, companionship, and dignity when she needed it most. Angie came into Brendaás life shortly after the passing of Gerald and allowed Brenda to smile and enjoy the simple things in life that she had missed so much after Gerald’s passing.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St, Lewistown.
