Barbara A. Frankhouser

Barbara A. Frankhouser, 84, passed away peacefully, on June 27, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 9, 1941, in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Minnie (Koser) Benson.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Belleville, Pennsylvania, and shared 62 devoted years of marriage with her beloved husband, Sherwood, until his passing in 2024. Together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and service to their community.

She is survived by her two children: Jill Kiley and her husband, Gene, of Coatesville, Pa., and Marc Frankhouser and his wife, Kathy, of Westfield, N.J. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Megan McCorkle and her husband, Brendan, of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Erin Cauley and her husband, Mike, Libby Kiley, and Nicholas Kiley, all of Coatesville, Pa.; and Hannah Frankhouser and Katie Frankhouser, of Westfield, N.J. Barbara was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Merle, Clementine, Francis, Matthew, and Benjamin, who brought her immense joy.

Barbara dedicated much of her life to public service and community involvement. She served on the Mifflin County School Board and the Vo-Tech Board for 24 years and made history as the first female President of the Mifflin County School Board; an accomplishment of which she was especially proud. Her leadership extended statewide through her longstanding involvement with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, where she also served as President. She was appointed by Governor Tom Ridge to serve on the PIAA, further reflecting her commitment to education and youth.

A pillar of the Belleville community, Barbara was a devoted member of the Belleville Civic Club for 55 years, chairing its beloved antique show for 43 of those years. She treasured attending Mifflin-Juniata Concert Association performances with her dear friends, Liz Stroup and Neda Thierwechter prior to their passings, and enjoyed supporting local events, including serving as a judge for community beauty pageants.

Barbara was a faithful member of West Kish Presbyterian Church in Belleville, where her quiet strength and steady presence will be deeply missed.

Barbara will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love of family, her steadfast faith, and her tireless service to the community she cherished.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life at West Kish Presbyterian Church in Belleville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with Pastor Ela J. Robertson officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment at Machpelah Cemetery will follow the service, and guests are invited to join the family for a luncheon in the church social hall afterward.
