Thomas L. Sunderland
Thomas L. Sunderland, 74, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 8, 1951, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Russell and Frances (Bossinger) Sunderland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Freed.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Donna (Mundy) Sunderland, whom he married on March 22, 1990. He is also survived by his siblings: Scott Sunderland and fiancée Nancy Mumper, of McVeytown; Donald Sunderland and wife Kayelene, of Reedsville; Mary Whiteman and husband Samuel, of McVeytown; Traci Shawver and husband Todd, of Lewistown; and Becky Arentz and husband Pat, of Ferrum, Virginia. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Tom honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
He was employed for many years at Overhead Door Co. until his retirement. Later in life, he worked part-time at the Valero Gas Station, where he became well known for his kindness and gentle spirit ä always offering lollipops to children and dog biscuits to every four-legged visitor. His warm and caring nature made him a friend to all who knew him.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing alongside his brother Scott, and relatives, Tim Mendler and Brandon Fisher. He was an avid golfer and a member of the American Legion Country Club in Mount Union. He was also a proud member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 4294, Lewistown City Hook and Ladder, and the American Legion in Lewistown.
All services will be private.
