Gregory E. Koontz

Gregory E. Koontz, 73, of Lewistown, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest and was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Though his earthly journey has ended, his family finds comfort in the promise of everlasting life and the peace of knowing he is now rejoicing in Heaven.

Born Jan. 20, 1953, in Everett, Pa., Gregg was the son of the late William E. Koontz and Donna (Long) Koontz, who survives.

He is also survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Ruby (Romig) Koontz, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since June 23, 1972; his cherished daughter, Natalie Sutton and husband, Donovan, of Reedsville; his beloved grandson, Hunter Sutton; and his precious great-grandson, Lucas Sutton. Gregg’s grandchildren were truly the light of his life, bringing him immeasurable joy and pride. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey Koontz and wife, Susan, of Lewistown, along with his nephews, Nathan, Joshua, and Lucas Koontz. Gregg also leaves behind many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends whose lives were richly blessed by his presence. He treasured every moment spent with his family, and the love he shared with them was evident in both word and deed. His legacy of faith, love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on through each of them. His faithful friendship with his dear friend, Fred Ciecierski, was one he treasured deeply and will long be remembered.

Gregg dedicated many years of service to Standard Steel, where he worked primarily as a ring mill operator until his retirement in 2019.

In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing and was a member of Lewistown Country Club. He also found great joy in riding his motorcycle and treasured the quiet peace found along the water while fishing with his friends David and Brian.

Above all else, Gregg was a man of deep and abiding faith. As a devoted member of Centre Union Church, he dearly loved his church family and faithfully served the Lord with a humble and generous heart. Whether helping with church renovations, lending a hand to someone in need, or offering encouragement through laughter and kindness, Gregg reflected Christ’s love in the way he lived each day. He never hesitated to help others, regardless of the sacrifice, and his compassion and servant’s heart touched countless lives.

Gregg will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his warm sense of humor, and the special way he made everyone around him feel valued and welcomed.

In accordance with Gregg’s wishes, no services will be held.
