Alice D. Crossgrove

Alice was born on Sept. 24, 1939, near Millerstown, Perry County, a daughter of the late Blanchard and Dorothy (Chubb) Sheaffer. Early in life, she married the late Orvis D. Crossgrove, who preceded her in passing on Dec. 8, 2000.

She was a 1959 graduate of Middleburg High School. Alice worked as a cook at various area restaurants and as a seamstress in various area garment factories. Her most satisfying and favorite career choice was as a home caregiver.

She attended the former Pleasant Valley Chapel in Mt. Pleasant Mills.

Alice enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, camping, looking at the view from Mount Pisgah Altar, and especially spending time with her family at their get togethers.

She is survived by her children, George (Nancy) Freed, Brenda (Delbert) Wileman, Bonnie (Bill) Brown, Ron (Beth) Freed, Connie Benfer and companion Chris Zechman, and Lonnie (Michelle) Freed; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence âSkipã (Dianne) Sheaffer; companion Terry âPeteã Hosler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Alice is preceded in passing by a grandson, Brandon Freed; great-granddaughter, Addison Freed; brothers, James Sheaffer, Lloyd âJakeã (Darlene) Sheaffer, and Palmer (Elizabeth) Messimer; sister-in-law, Grace Sheaffer; and nephew, Clarence Sheaffer Jr.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the funeral at 10:30 a.m. at George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, with Pastor Paul Adams officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Penns Creek Union Cemetery.
