Thomas M. Varner
Thomas M. Varner, 71, Shirleysburg, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2026. Born Oct. 24, 1954, son of the late Thomas L. and Virginia (Gearhart) Varner.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by a son, Nathaniel Varner; brothers, Luther, Charles; sisters, Naomi, Anna, Pauline, and Cuma. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Ritchey) Varner, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage; sons, Thomas (Kelli) Varner, Donnie (Donna) Watkins, Mike (Tam) Hamilton; daughters, Rachel (Mitchell) Mowrer, Cherie (Scott) Burket; brothers, Dave Varner, Don Varner, Inaze Varner; sisters, Alice Varner, Mary Varner, Hazel Varner, and Nellie Varner, 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, he worked throughout his life as a farmer, truck driver, and later as an operator at U.S. Silica. Known for his hardworking nature, he was also a talented tinkerer who could fix just about anything. He was especially known among family and friends for his skill as a home butcher, particularly for hogs. Thomas was a member of the Rockhill American Legion, the Mount Union VFW, the Mount Union Sons of Italy, and the Mill Creek Fire Hall. He enjoyed family outings and spending time with his family and friends, who will remember him for his dedication, humor, and willingness to lend a hand.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Heath-Anderson Funeral Home and Friday, April 24, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Joe Barrett, officiant. Burial to follow at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. Military Honors provided by Huntingdon VFW and Alexandria American Legion.
