Donald E. "Donny" Swartz, 81, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, at Brookline Manor.
Born Sept. 9, 1944, in Thompsontown, he was a son of the late Edward B. and Margaret (Zeigler) Swartz.
He is survived by six siblings, Arthur Swartz, Madeline Donaldson, Mary Ranck, Harry Swartz and wife, Faye, John Swartz and wife, Brenda, and Kathy Huss and husband, John, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Swartz and James Swartz and one sister, Jean Marshall.
He worked at Empire Kosher Poultry for 25 years and was known as the 'can man" because he regularly walked through Mifflin and Mifflintown gathering aluminum cans to recycle.
Donny faithfully attended Mexico Full Gospel Mission.
He enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, attending local softball games and hanging out at the Mifflin softball field and at Agway. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. He loved his family and helping other people, especially kids.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Rev. Charles McKee officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at the funeral home.
