Shirley Marie Rager

Shirley Marie Rager, age 90, of Reedsville, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1935, in Reedsville, the daughter of the late Warren and Josephine Yetter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Rager, and her sons, Scott Rager, Timothy Rager, and Douglas Rager.

She is survived by her children: Cynthia (Doug) Esh, of Milroy, Kerry (Martha) Rager, of Reedsville, and Kirk (Christina) Rager, of Reedsville. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Daniel Esh, Kelley Yoder, Benjamin Esh, Mia Evans, Cody Rager, and Tanner Rager; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Sally (James) Krick, of Lewistown, and special cousins, Paula Green and Connie Parkes.

Shirley was a graduate of Armagh-Brown High School. Following graduation, she was employed by the Reedsville Telephone Exchange. She later served her community faithfully as the Brown Township Tax Collector for 20 years.

A lifelong member of the Reedsville United Methodist Church, Shirley greatly enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and rarely missed a game. In her quieter moments, she loved sitting on her porch, attending community concerts, and enjoying ice cream.

Shirley was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family, including her two sons with special needs. She was a wonderful neighbor and was well known and warmly regarded throughout the community. Her kindness, devotion, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A viewing will be held at the Reedsville United Methodist Church, 82 East Logan St., Ext., Reedsville, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. with Pastors Cathy Dawes and Rick Bender officiating.
