James W. Young, 83, of Lewistown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at his home.
Born on Nov. 19, 1942, in Lewistown, Jim was the son of the late George Howard and Violet (Swanger) Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Marie (Mancino) Young, and by his sisters, Mary Bowen, Ann Rayson, Dorothy Ream, and Jane Fultz.
Jim is survived by his loving children: Michael Heider and his wife Judy, of Burnham; Edward Heider, of Lewistown; Joseph Heider, of Burnham; Jeffrey Heider and his wife Laurie, of Lewistown; and James Young II and his wife Lori, of Lewistown. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Amber Heider; Bradey Heider and his wife Brooke; Rachal Clifton and her husband Wesley; Ashley Henry and her husband Justin; Zachary Heider and his wife Jannelle; Nathan Heider and his wife Lindsey; Jonathan Young; and Anthony Young and his wife Danielle. He also cherished his 13 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brother, John Young and his wife Bonnie, of Lewistown, and his sister, Helen Pennepacker, of Reedsville.
Earlier in life, Jim was employed as a cook at Cargill's Restaurant in Lewistown. He later went on to work for Overhead Door Corporation, where he served as a supervisor for many years before retiring.
Jim honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Army.
He was a devoted member of Lewistown Alliance Church and Moose Lodge No. 143. In the fall, Jim could often be found cheering on his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Las Vegas Raiders. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially enjoying hunting and fishing with family and friends. A true social butterfly, Jim loved to converse and connect with others, and he made it a priority to spend time with his family, regularly visiting his grandchildren and sharing in their lives.
A funeral service in loving memory of Jim will be held at non on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Bill Miller officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Juniata Memorial Park.
