Eva J. (Smith) Romig, 83 of McAlisterville, entered into the rest of her Savior at 10:45 p.m. Dec. 26, 2025, in Carlisle UPMC following an illness of several months.
Born in Tyrone, Pa., Jan. 21, 1942, Eva spent her school years in Spruce Hill Township along Mountain Road.
Eva was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Vernon, her parents, and nine sisters.
After graduating from Juniata Joint High School in 1959, Eva was employed at Kinney Shoes in Beaver Springs. Later she cleaned homes in Fayette Township for many people who became fast friends.
Eva and Vernon were members of Cedar Grove since 1977. They enjoyed bus trips with the Cedar Grove senior adults to Lancaster, Gettysburg, and other local venues. They also traveled to their favorite attractions in Tennessee and New York and traveled far and wide to follow their favorite stock car drivers. It was a rare occasion that Eva missed a Saturday night at the "Port".
After Vernon's death, Eva continued to enjoy the company of friends and 'adopted' family members. Enjoying summer picnics and holiday meals with families she became close to. She traveled to local places of interest with her neighbor and very good friend Drusilla Troyer, who, the last few years became a close companion and friend. Eva also had many good neighbors and friends in the Cedar Grove family who checked in on her and included her in church activities.
Eva loved her pets. Winston, her white poodle mix, and cats, Emily, BillieBob, and Dollie were constant companions.
A memorial service will be held on Jan. 16 at 11 a.m., preceded by a time of visitation, at Cedar Grove Church, Pastor Kenneth Hepner officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Eva's name can be made to Christian Retreat Center, East Waterford, PA 17021, or Rescue Our Furry Friends, P.O. Box 16, Reedsville, PA 17084.
