Gayle Kerr Hockenberry, died Oct. 25, 2025 in Fairfield, Maine after an extended and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in 1964 in Lewistown, Pa. to Sara and George Kerr.
She was a graduate of Lewistown Area High School and Juniata College. She was proceeded by a sister Bette Foster. She is survived by her husband, Warren Horbal and her sisters, Cheryl Liggett (David) and Gloria Morgan (Jack), both of Lewistown and five nieces and nephews and five grand nieces and nephews and an aunt, Shirley Setzler and several step children and step grandchildren.
She loved nature and animals, often feeding the wildlife in the woods behind her home. She rescued Greyhounds and visited nursing homes with her dogs. She had a writing ability which was often very humorous.
Gayle endured years of a five hour train ride to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for her cancer treatment and then another five hour train ride home to Maine. She was always pleasant and cheerful to the doctors and nurses there and to everyone she encountered. She was a lover of nature, animals and people. Any person was blessed to have Gayle as a friend.
